Gladys Yuvonna “Bonnie” Applegate Ellis Poynter, 86, of Tollesboro, died Friday, August 5, 2016, at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
She was the widow of Teddy Poynter, who died January 17, 2016. The couple had been married for 50 years.
Mrs. Poynter was a member of Tollesboro United Methodist Church and attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She had attended Morehead State University and at one time was a substitute teacher for the Lewis County School System. She was also engaged in farming with her late husband, Teddy.
She was born in Lewis County February 25, 1930, a daughter of the late George Thomas Applegate and Elsie Ryan Applegate.
Mrs. Poynter is survived by her two daughters, Linda Hickerson (Steve) and Pat Doyle (Larry), both of Tollesboro; two grandchildren, Emily Thomas and Jennifer Miller (Timothy); three great-grandchildren, Jenna Thomas, Declan Thomas and Titus Miller; one brother, James A. Applegate of Tollesboro; two sisters-in-law, Louanna Hamilton of Erlanger, and Maye Applegate of Tollesboro; a niece, Anna June Hamilton of Wilder; and special cousins, Ester Brown and Eddie Ryan.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Phillips; and four brothers, Leonard Applegate, Wendell Applegate, Norman Applegate and Gary Applegate.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro with Bro. Jerry Eubanks officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
