Gladys Evelyn Thacker Liles, 90, of Camp Dix, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born April 26, 1926, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Edgar and Evelyn Smith Thacker.

Gladys was a member of Blankenship Christian Holiness Church. She retired from US Shoe Corporation after 25 years of service and served as a grandmother for the Lewis County School System at Laurel Elementary School for 18 years. Gladys was a hometown hero of Laurel and a Kentucky Colonel. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, canning, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Gladys was greatly loved by her church family, students, school faculty, and the community.

Gladys is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Fonda Jo Newport and Thomas of Chester, Virginia, and Margaret Stroth and David of Ashland; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Thacker of Mansfield, Ohio; and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Ann Nolen of Greenwood, Indiana. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Liles; one son, Orvin Nolen Jr.; one brother, Homer Thacker; and one sister, Mary Ellen Applegate.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel at Camp Dix with Bro. Jerry Bloomfield and Bro. Jack Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in Liles Cemetery at Camp Dix.

Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, and after 11:00 a.m. Sunday at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 7975 Lower Kinney Road at Camp Dix.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
