Glenna Michelle Ginn Shumate, 55, of Vanceburg, passed away Monday afternoon, August 11, 2025, at her home.
She was born October 22, 1969, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late Mitchell Glenn Swimm and Patricia Ann Ginn, both of Vanceburg.
For many years, Glenna was employed by the Lewis County school system. Later in life, she operated several gas stations.
She had a remarkable artistic talent. Whether drawing, painting, creating t-shirt designs, or working in photography, she loved art and creativity.
Glenna was also an avid sports fan. She played basketball and softball in her school years and later enjoyed coaching girls basketball. She also loved playing golf, shooting pool, and watching NFL and college basketball.
Traveling with her husband was something she always looked forward to. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Whether you knew her from working at the school or gas stations, as a coach, on the golf course, or at the billiards table, she would always greet you with a smile. She was an angel on Earth, and to have known her was an honor.
Glenna is survived by her loving husband of six years, Todd Shumate; two daughters, Brittany Lewis of Vanceburg and Kirsten (Ronnie) Chinn of Emerson; a son, Michael Lewis of Vanceburg; five stepsons, Jason (Gabby) Shumate of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jeremy Ames of Garrison, and Derek Shumate, Rory Shumate, and Ryder Shumate of Vanceburg; a brother, Dean Allen Davis of Morehead; two grandchildren, Emberlee Chinn, who she affectionately called “Lemmy Drop,” and Kenzie Jo Chinn; and five step-grandchildren, Sebastian Shumate, Blaze Shumate, Sierra Shumate, Seth Shumate, and Alison Ames.
She also leaves behind an uncle, Carl (Lisa) Ginn, and an aunt, Marsha Ruark, with whom she was raised and considered more like a brother and sister; a special mother-in-law, Freda “Momma Freda” Shumate; and many more family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, April DeAnn Davis; a nephew, Jordan Andrew Dyer; her maternal grandmother, Peggy Ginn Ruark, whom she considered a second mom; and a son-in-law, Bradley Barker.
Visitation will be Friday, August 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until Noon at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Services will begin at Noon with Bro. Sam Parks and Bro. Tommy Parks officiating. Glenna will be laid to rest beside her mother, sister, and nephew in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.
Pallbearers will be Carl Ginn, Dean Allen Davis, Ronnie Chinn, Dalton Ginn, Rory Shumate, and Ryder Shumate.
A meal and time of fellowship for family and friends will follow at the VFW in Vanceburg until 4:00 p.m.
