Iness Smith Knell, 85, of Vanceburg, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio. Her family was at her side.
Iness was born in Lewis County on April 17, 1938, a daughter of the late Thurston and Rose Bloomfield Smith. She was a lifelong homemaker. She enjoyed hunting ginseng and planting flowers and tending to her garden. She also liked to watch old TV shows. She was of the Christian faith.
Left to cherish her memories are a daughter, Helen Marie (Bob) Bloomfield of Garrison; one son, James Willard Knell of Vanceburg; two sisters, Millie Bloomfield of Vanceburg and Betty Davis of Olive Hill; two brothers, Simon Smith of Vanceburg and Leon Smith of Olive Hill; several grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Buck Knell in 1997; two sons, Clyde Knell and Carl Knell; two sisters, Ida Mae Knell and Myrtle Cooley; four brothers, Charles Edward Smith, Junior Smith, Lovell Smith, and Gene Smith; and a great-great-granddaughter, Jaelynna Marie Knell.
Graveside services will be Monday, January 8, 2024, in Nolen Cemetery on Laurel with Bro. Tony Corns officiating.
Visitation will be Monday, January 8, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until Noon at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
