Jean Hamlin Highfield, 94, of Hermitage, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Lakeshore Heartland Nursing Home in Nashville, Tennessee.
She was born March 11, 1926, on the family farm near Ribolt in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Reverend Newton Hamlin and Christine Grigsby Hamlin.
Jean was a graduate of Tollesboro High School and attended Portsmouth Business College. She worked for many years as manager of Farmer’s Feed & Supply, the family’s farm supply store in Tollesboro. She later worked in sales at Trapp & Wilson Furniture in Maysville. Jean was an excellent cook and had a large collection of cookbooks and recipes. She also enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Jean was a member of Tollesboro United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Christy Gallenstein Quinter (Phillip) of Hermitage, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Hope Marie Quinter and Hannah Kate Quinter of Hermitage, Tennessee; one sister, Barbara Hamlin Reeder (Danny) of Florence; two nieces, Sara Reeder Voelker of Taylor Mill, and Mary Reeder Aulick (Chad) of Edgewood; grandnieces and grandnephews, Kendall Voelker, Jameson Voelker, Jacob Aulick, Luke Aulick, Marnie Aulick and Benjamin Aulick.
A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021, in Mt. Tabor Cemetery at Ribolt with O’Brien Ferguson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
