James Allen Cotton of Spring Hill, Florida, formerly of Sandusky, Ohio, passed into eternity on October 20, 2024.
Jim was born at the family home in Lewis County, a son of the late William Ernest Cotten and Virginia Mullins Cotten. He grew up spending quality time on the family farm with his grandparents, James Leonard Cotten and Annie Jane Fyffe Cotten.
Jim served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He liked to work with his hands and was employed in the roofing and carpentry industry. He had also worked at Casper Buick in Sandusky, Ohio. Jim was an avid NASCAR fan and loved the Cleveland Browns. If you couldn’t reach Jim on his cell phone you were greeted by two words – “Go Browns!”
Jim is survived by his partner, Walda Cross of Spring Hill, Florida; two daughters, Christina Reed (Otis) and Tammy Cotton of Sandusky, Ohio; two sons, James Cotton of Spring Hill, Florida, and Ashley Bates of Tampa, Florida; his stepchildren, Jimmy Cross and Melissa Cross of Spring Hill, Florida; two sisters, Roxanne Cotton of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and RoAlice Jewett (Kevin) of Charleston, South Carolina; and two brothers, Peter Giles Jr. and James Giles of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jim’s legacy includes 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his lifelong buddies, Danny Guevara, Danny Vladiff, Tommy Pollard, Bernel Scott, and Russel Tilton.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Christine Pollard; a brother, Robert E. Cotton; a brother-in-law, Clarence Joseph Pollard; a nephew, Allen E. Pollard; and a great-niece, Stephanie D. McCarty.
Services for Jim were at Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home in Hudson, Florida, on Friday, November 1, 2024, followed by cremation.
