John Kennedy McCane, 61, of Vanceburg, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024, at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
John was born in Lewis County on November 25, 1963, a son of the late Naman and Margaret Louise Penrod McCane.
John’s friends called him “Blue” because he loved to coon hunt and he loved Bluetick Coonhounds. John was an auto mechanic with Dobo’s Service Station for 20 years and had worked for Kenny McCane, A&B Auto Sales, and Coot Switzer’s Body Shop. John was an avid outdoorsman and loved to go hunting for rabbits and coons. He loved his animals and was a collector of guns and knives. John was always up to go to a yard sale and shop. He loved little children and lived a very humble private life.
Survivors include seven sisters, Rosemary (Tim) Byrum and Faye (John) Jackson of Columbus, Ohio, Brenda (Joe) Mefford, Vonda Clark, and Joyce (Danny) Bentley of Vanceburg, Jeanie (Jerry) Cullum of West Portsmouth, Ohio, and Janet Kay (Winfred) Fraley of Garrison; four brothers, Cecil (Thelma) McCane, Dallas (Marlene) McCane, and Duane (Melissa) McCane of Vanceburg, and Terry Johnson of Garrison. Several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive who will mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry McCane and Eric Thomas McCane; two stepsisters, Kathy Adkins and Rita Fraley; and four stepbrothers, Ronie Adkins, Donnie Adkins, Randy Adkins, and John Adkins.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Pastor Bobby McCane officiating. Burial will follow in Muses Chapel Cemetery on Quicks Run.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Justin Mefford, Waylon McCane, Tim Byrum, TJ Scott, Andrew Swingler, and Jerry Cullum.
