Karys D. Shaw, 18, and her unborn daughter died early Wednesday morning, May 8, 2024, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Karys was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on October 5, 2005, a daughter of the late Adam and Kristan Esham Shaw. She worked as a home care aide for Tipton Private Company in Richmond.
She was very passionate about caring for animals, especially her dogs. Karys was very artistic and enjoyed painting. She was of the Christian faith.
Left to cherish Karys’ memories are her adopted mother, Rebecca Knell of South Portsmouth; a daughter, Emberlee Sprouse of South Portsmouth; a brother, Kaiden Shaw of Maysville; her paternal grandparents, Rick “Skeeter” and Sonia Shaw of Tollesboro; and her maternal great-grandparents, Kenneth and Marcella Esham of Vanceburg. Several other family members and friends also survive who also will mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, James Bradley Esham, and grandfather, John Lee Esham.
A memorial service will be at Noon Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Scott Cummins officiating.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home.
