Larry D. Evans, 77, of Vanceburg, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 14, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born in Lewis County on May 31, 1946, a son of the late Falmouth and Evelyn Lewis Evans. He worked for CSX Railroad for 13 years, and was also a semi tractor/trailer driver for various companies. Larry never met a stranger, always stopping and talking to everyone he met. He always had a big garden and was very generous in giving his produce to anyone in need. Larry loved to go hunting in the fall. He was a great caregiver to his mom and mother-in-law. He was especially proud of his children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter. Larry was of the Christian faith.
Left to cherish Larry’s memories are two daughters, Stephanie Jane Taylor of Maysville and Sheryl Lee (Sam) Bond of Foster; a son, Joseph Dale (Danielle) Evans of Brooksville; three sisters, Doris Thoroughman of Flemingsburg, Pat Bryant of South Portsmouth, and Sandy (Ezra) Bartee of Yale, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Cody Zornes, Elizabeth Taylor, Breanna Bond, Kaitlyn Bond, Cruz Evans, Hailee Evans, and Chris Evans; one great-granddaughter, Avery Gilvin; and his mother-in-law, Hazel Fannin of Camp Dix.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Lee Evans in 1998; a sister, Joyce Hobbs; a brother, Fredrick R. Evans; two brothers-in-law, Paul Bryant and Billy D. Thoroughman; a sister-in-law, Linda Sue Sartin Evans; and father-in-law, Clinton Fannin.
Services will be at Noon Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Jerry Bloomfield officiating. Burial will follow in Stone Cemetery at Camp Dix.
Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Evans, Sam Bond, Cody Zornes, Cruz Evans, Chris Evans, Daniel Bartee, Josh Kirschbaum, and Jonathan Caudill. Honorary pallbearers will be Payton Gilvin, Ryan Smart, and Steve Frodge.
