Homer Leslie “Les” Moore, 78, of Vanceburg, went home to be with the Lord Friday evening, December 29, 2023, after an extended illness. His family was at his side.
He was born July 31, 1945, in Lewis County, a son of the late Clarence and Christina Toller Moore.
Les was a masonry contractor for most of his life. He was a Christian and attended Happy Hollow Union Church for 24 years. He enjoyed attending church, hunting, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Les is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Sapp Moore; two daughters, Sheila (Tracy) Cassidy and Teresa (Roger) Griffitt of Vanceburg; three sisters, Louise Thoroughman and Alma Thomas of Vanceburg, and Lena Hughes of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Bob Moore of Tollesboro; one granddaughter, Natasha (Wes) Bloomfield of Vanceburg; two grandsons, Derick (Caitlin Oliver) Stone of Winchester and David Griffitt of Morehead; and three great-grandchildren, Kambrie and Ivy Bloomfield and Weston Stone. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Virginia Ruark, Juanita Lykins, Martha Bravard, Wilma Williams, and Minnie McCane; three brothers, Harold Moore, Eugene Moore, and Elmo Moore; and one great-granddaughter, Emersyn Kate Bloomfield.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Happy Hollow Union Church at Tollesboro with Bro. Kent Moore, Bro. Bryan Davis, and Bro. Jim Bob Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Happy Hollow Cemetery.
Friends may visit after Noon Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Happy Hollow Union Church.
Pallbearers will be Derick Stone, David Griffitt, Tracy Cassidy, Roger Griffitt, Wes Bloomfield, and Ronnie Sartin.
Honorary pallbearers will be TB Applegate, Larry Doyle, Mike Grayson, Wayne Cooley, and Ronnie Hall.
