Lillian Mae Burriss Allen, 86, of Vanceburg, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Lillian was born at Black Oak on April 12, 1930, to the late Jesse Nesius and Delma Akers Burriss.
She was a graduate of Morehead State University where she earned her Masters Degree in Education, Rank 1. Lillian was a teacher for the Lewis County School System where she worked for 31 years as an educator. Lillian’s school career started in the Armstrong one-room school. At the completion of her working career she was a home economics teacher at Lewis County High School.
She was a member of Quincy Church of Christ and was a veteran of the US Air Force in which she so proudly served during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Joseph Allen, whom she married in Ashland on August 11, 1957; two sons, JB (Deborah) Allen of Hurricane, West Virginia, and Brian F. Allen of Vanceburg; and one sister, Doris (James) Forman of San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Harlan Dean Burriss; and a sister, Marjorie Evelyn Ervin.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 8:00 a.m. until the service hour Monday at Gaydos Funeral Home.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438 of Vanceburg.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
