Local family witnesses incident at Cincinnati Zoo

Nearly everyone has heard and seen news coverage of a terrifying incident at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Saturday afternoon in which a four-year-old boy fell into a gorilla enclosure and zoo workers killed the gorilla to protect the boy.
Authorities said the child was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries and later released.
Deidre and David Lykins of Vanceburg were visiting the gorilla exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo when the incident happened. David Lykins can be heard talking in one of the videos released of the incident when the child got into the exhibit.
Here is Deidre Lykins’ account of the incident:
“My family and I decided to go to the zoo yesterday (Saturday) after visiting my niece at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. For those of you that have already heard, there was a terrible accident there
