Lon Zornes

Lonnie Ralph “Lon” Zornes, 92, of Emerson, went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 22, 2023, at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lewis County on January 26, 1931, a son of the late Roy and Belle Riley Zornes.

Lon was a member of Old Trace Community Church and served as a mail carrier for the Emerson community beginning in the early 1950’s. When he wasn’t working the mail route, he could be found in the tobacco fields, riding horses, or with his cows. After retirement you would find him on the farm riding his side-by-side, cutting brush, and being the life of our family gatherings. He loved God, his family, and his community.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Orcutt of Emerson and Karen (John) Roe of Camp Dix; three sons, Jeff (Etta) Zornes, Douglas (Inez) Zornes, and Matthew (Trudi) Zornes of Emerson; eight grandchildren, Bryan (Jennifer) Orcutt, Neil (Janey) Orcutt, Nathan (Carlissa) Zornes, Brittany (Lewis) McCraw, Hannah Zornes, Dalton Zornes, Jordan Zornes, and Justin Zornes; and four great-grandchildren, Isabella Orcutt, Leighton Orcutt, Colten Orcutt and Darcey Lou Zornes. Several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many other family members, church family, and friends also survive who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruby Inez Spence Zornes; six sisters, Ruth Thompson, Hazel Williamson, Merle Bloomfield, Ethel Morgan, Maggie Carver, and Minnie Yates; two brothers, Homer Zornes and Willard Zornes; a son in law, Lonnie Orcutt; and one granddaughter, Janay Zornes.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Old Trace Community Church at Emerson with Bro. Ronnie Chinn and Bro. Bobby Burge officiating. Burial will follow in Old Trace Community Cemetery at Emerson.

Friends may visit after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2023, and until the service hour Wednesday at Old Trace Community Church.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Orcutt, Nathan Zornes, Lewis McCraw, Jordan Zornes, Aaron Zornes, and Johnny Zornes.

Globe Family Funeral Chapel at Camp Dix is caring for arrangements.

Condolences may be sent at www.globefamilyfc.com.
