Marie Flinders

Agnes Marie Flinders, 94, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away Tuesday evening, December 19, 2023, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. 

She was born at Petersville on April 6, 1929, a daughter of the late AD and Lou Jane (Bailey) Lykins. 

She married James Myron Flinders in 1948. Marie was a homemaker and the couple had three children. After James’ death in 1972, Marie entered the workforce first with Dejong’s, there with Avon as a sales representative. She retired from Avon in 2018. 

She was a former lifetime member of the Newburgh American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 44. Marie enjoyed weekends at her river camp, sunbathing, gardening, tending to her potted plants, and going for walks. She especially loved to have visitors, talking with her nieces, watching college basketball, and having a margarita. 

Survivors include her daughter, Debra Flinders (Anita Powell) of Newburgh; two sons, Mike (Sheila) Flinders and Steve (Dorcas) Flinders of Newburgh; her brother, Harold (Helen) Lykins of Maysville; a step-grandson, Lane Ross (Jesse) of Evansville, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, grand-dogs, and cats.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, four sisters, and friend, Jack Shekell. 

As per her wishes, there will be no service. A burial will take place in Lewis County Memory Gardens at a later date. 

The family appreciates the assistance of Shawntrece Deters of Deaconess Palliative Care for her thoughtful presence during the most trying time. The family would like to thank nieces Carol Hull and Linda Kennedy for all the phone calls and visits to Newburgh. 

The family also wishes to thank Marsha and Dave Lambert, and Sherry Auten of Newburgh, your friendship with Marie was very special. 

Additionally, the family would like to thank Deaconess Hospice whose care allowed Marie to be with family and friends until her last day.
