Mary Alice Everman Underwood, 76, went home to be with the Lord Friday evening, August 19, 2016, surrounded by family at her homeplace on Scaffold Lick.
Mary was a born again believer and a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church at Quincy. She enjoyed being active in her church and serving as a Sunday School teacher, working with music ministries, and bringing devotions in special ladies’ meetings and gatherings. Mary was a light and inspiration to all who knew her.
Mary retired from the Lewis County Board of Education as a Special Education Teacher, serving at Garrison Elementary School. Mary had a special love and compassion for children with special needs.
Mary was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her.
She was born to the late Woodrow Everman and Phoebe McDaniel Everman on February 29, 1940.
Mary married William “Bill” Underwood in January 25, 1957, and they were married 46 years.
In addition to Bill and her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a son, William “Todd” Underwood; two brothers, Glen Everman and James “Jim” Everman; and a sister-in-law, Sherry Everman.
Survivors include her children, Anthony “Tony” Underwood of Firebrick, Tim (Sandy) Underwood of Garrison, Phebe “Terena” (Doug) Underwood Kraft of Scaffold Lick, and Trent (Cilina) Underwood of Garrison; seven grandchildren, Rebecca (Ryan) Underwood Fyffe, Woody (Elizabeth) Underwood, Kristin (Javontae) Kraft Edwards, Brittney Underwood, Kameron (Deidre) Kraft, Tanner Underwood, and Cayden Stevenson; four great-grandchildren, Mason Fyffe, Woodrow “Carson” Underwood, Emma Underwood, and Ariah Edwards; and her dedicated and loving caregiver, Delta Pruitt.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Faith Baptist Church with Bro. Tim Underwood and Bro. Cecil Fayard officiating. Burial will follow in Collier Memorial Gardens at South Portsmouth.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 103 Dudley Avenue in Garrison, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Faith Baptist Church is located off the AA Highway on Briary Road at Quincy.
