Matthew Ruggles, 43, of Grayson, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born at Morehead on August 7, 1981, a son of the late William Ruggles and Debra Carver.
Matthew was an active advocate for addiction recovery. He was four years sober in his recovery journey and loved his job helping those struggling with addiction. He was an active sponsor to many in need. Matthew had an immense love for music and concerts. He was a dean’s list academic with future acceptance to Marshall University. He loved spending time with friends and family, his faith was guided spirituality, and he also enjoyed studying astronomy, philosophy, psychology, and all the inner workings of our consciousness.
Those left behind to cherish his memories include his fiancée, Hannah Fannin; two daughters, Makayla Ruggles of Ashland and Angel Lynn Fannin of Grayson; two sons, Kevin Ison and Gabe Matthew Fannin of Grayson; one sister, Toni Kamer of Garrison; one brother, Jason Lee (Angie) Ruggles of Ashland; paternal grandparents, William and Della Ruggles of Quincy; an aunt, Judy Carver; two uncles, Donald Carver Jr. and Mark Ruggles; one niece, Katelyn Ruggles; one nephew, Nathan Ruggles; and eight best friends, JD Richards, Ivan Caldwell, Jeremiah Johnson, Anson Kane, Tyler Chase, Teddy Thayer, Tad Barker, and Trae Carver. He also leaves behind several other cousins, friends, and family members who will sadly miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald Carver and Jeanie Henderson.
Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with Amanda Meyer and Glenn Lawhun officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Roberson Funeral Home.
A private inurnment will be in Sunset Cemetery at Quincy.
