Violet Maxine O’Dell, 100, of Vanceburg, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio, after a brief illness. Her loving family was by her side.
Maxine, as she was known by her family and friends, was born at Cabool, Missouri, on April 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Arch and Bertha Wade Rust.
She was a loving devoted Mother to her family. Early in her life, Maxine worked for Brown Shoe factory in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and for US Shoe Corporation in Vanceburg. She liked taking walks, working on crossword puzzles, and going bowling. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially rummy. She was known in the community for being an excellent seamstress.
She was an active lifelong member of Vanceburg First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 49 years.
Left to cherish Maxine’s memories are three daughters, Marilyn (Roger) Scaggs of Vanceburg, Sharon (Richard) Bays of Davis, Oklahoma, and Terri McConnell of Cherryvale, Kansas; several grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Sue O’Dell; a son, Jerry Donald O’Dell; a sister, Wanda Noel; and a granddaughter, Shelby Bays.
At the family’s request, there will be no service at this time.
