Morris Wendell Applegate, 81, of Tollesboro, went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2016, at Hospice of Hope Care Center at Kenton Pointe.

He was a devoted husband and father.

Mr. Applegate was born in Lewis County May 15, 1935, to the late Lloyd and Hester Jane O’Cull Applegate.

Morris Wendell attended Pine Valley Christian Church for many years. He was a member of Woodmen Life Chapter 890. Through his 81 years in life, he had several careers and hobbies, including at Cloverleaf Dairy, the Ashland Station in Tollesboro, a car salesman, a property manager, and many others.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn Sue O’Cull Applegate; two children, Mary Jane Baldwin (Keith) and Dale Applegate (Batrina); two grandchildren, Lori Applegate and Josh Applegate; one step grandchild, Kayla Reed; and one great-granddaughter, Marlee Applegate; two sisters, Bert Evans (Bob) and Lola Johnston (Virgil); and three brothers, Norman Applegate (Pauline), Charles Applegate and Dink Applegate (Lisa). He also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Morris Wendell resided at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for approximately 11 months and made many new friends there. He will be leaving behind those special friends that include residents, nurses, nurses’ aides, housekeepers, therapists and a special roommate, Billy Cracraft, who shared his TV with him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Delbert Applegate, James P. Applegate and Herbert Applegate.

Services will be held at Pine Valley Christian Church at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016, with Bro. Phil Cropper officiating.

Burial will follow in Pine Valley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dale Applegate, Keith Baldwin, Brian O’Cull, Russell Ruggles, Richard Applegate, and Josh Applegate. Honorary pallbearers will include Bob Evans, Wayne Cooley, Delmar Duzan and Ricky Thomas.

Visitation will be at Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016.
