Alfred Nelson Skidmore, 83, of Garrison, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio. His family was by his side.
Nelson was born at Garrison on August 21, 1940, a son of the late Buster and June Richardson Skidmore.
He was a carpenter and was retired from Local 437. He was involved in logging and farming, and was a master of a lot of trades. He always stayed busy with something.
Nelson loved the outdoors and Mudd racing. He loved Briery and hunting on his Briary Farm. He enjoyed four-wheeling, farming, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish Nelson’s memory are his wife of 59 years, Martha Skidmore; four daughters, Angie (Bradley) Sparks, Rhonda (Boe) Kegley, Tina Skidmore, and Carrie (Jesse) Mosley; three sisters, Wilma Collier, Betty (Junior) Bloomfield, and Cora (Ray) May; five grandchildren, Nelson Kegley, Derrick Kegley, Pamela Stamm, Brad Sparks, and Colt Russell Mosley; and seven
great-grandchildren, Braden Kegley, Kaylee Kegley, Makenna Stamm, Brantley Stamm, Elodie Stamm, Elaina Sparks, and Marshall Sparks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons; a sister, Freda Ann Hauck; and seven brothers, Homer Edward Skidmore, Kenneth Richard Skidmore, Larry Lee Skidmore, James Donald Skidmore, Ronald Thomas Skidmore, Michael Craig Skidmore, David Wayne Skidmore, and Kenneth “Buck” Skidmore.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Pastor Ben Collier officiating. Burial will follow in Skidmore Cemetery at Garrison.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2024, and after Noon on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home.
