Norma “Jean” Skidmore Phillips, 95, of Merrillville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Crown Point Christian Village in Crown Point, Indiana.
She was born January 25, 1925, at Garrison, a daughter of the late Laurence and Edna Skidmore.
Jean moved to Hammond, Indiana, in 1950 and became a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Hammond where she served as a Sunday school teacher and bus captain. She loved participating in church functions, and enjoyed bowling, ladies dartball, and watching her grandkids play sports. She was employed by The Times of Northwest Indiana, having retired in 1999.
Jean is survived by her son, William Lawrence “Larry” Phillips, of Margate, Florida; a daughter Karen (John) Clendenen of Crown Point, Indiana; three grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Patterson of Middletown, Ohio; Todd (Michelle) Phillips of St. Augustine, Flordia; and Trina Keilman, of Crown Point, Indiana; 10 great-grandchildren (and soon to arrive great-great-grandchild); and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Phillips; three brothers Maurice Skidmore, Harold Skidmore, and Bruce Skidmore; and two sisters, Edna Sue Skidmore, and Marilyn Fannin.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2021, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel at Garrison with Bro. Johnny Byard officiating. Burial will follow in Waring Cemetery at Garrison.
Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2021, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 103 Dudley Avenue at Garrison.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
