Norman A. Smith, 74, of Vanceburg, passed away Friday, October 3, 2025, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, following an extended illness. His loving family was at his side.
He was born in Lewis County on October 28, 1950, a son of the late Norman L. and Lucy Montieth Smith.
Norman worked for US Shoe Corporation in Vanceburg for 20 years and later served 10 years as a custodian at Lewis County Middle School. He was a farmer who enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time, was of the Christian faith, and was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Brown Smith; one son, Norman (Kimberly) Smith of Garrison; three sisters, Wilma Chinn, Rita Smith, and Audrey McCane of Vanceburg; two brothers, Gary (Sandy) Smith and Rick (Candy) Smith of Vanceburg; six grandchildren, Zachary, Casara, Amber, Dawson, Aleah, and Kaden; and 12 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Joey Smith and Mark Smith.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Tony Corns officiating.
Burial will be in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438.
Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Gaydos Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
