Opal Gilkison

Opal Bell McClurg Gilkison, 88, of Georgetown, formerly of Vanceburg, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Cynthiana.

She was born in Lewis County on September 5, 1934, a daughter of the late Fred and Kathryn Penrod McClurg.

Opal enjoyed sewing, cooking, cleaning house, playing bingo, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include three daughters, Diane Bruin, Stella Hampton, and Wanda Brewer of Cynthiana; two brothers, Gene McClurg of Zephyr Hills, Florida, and Bud McClurg of Georgetown; three sisters, Geneva Lanthorn of Batavia, Ohio, Jewell Jarrett of Columbus, Ohio, and Darlene Henderson of Tollesboro; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Many other family members and friends also survive who will sadly miss her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years,Thomas Layton Gilkison; two daughters, Brenda Gail Gilkison and Penny Sue Giles; one grandson, Kevin Morris, one great-grandchild, Baby Cole; and four brothers, Frank McClurg, Delbert McClurg, Ralph McClurg, and Johnny McClurg.

Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Bro. Curtis Cootes officiating. Burial will follow in McClurg Cemetery.

Friends may visit after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Service
