Otha G. Goodwin, 89, of Ashland, formerly of Vanceburg, passed away Friday, March 25, 2016, with his family by his side at Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland after an extended illness.
Otha was born at Tannery on February 18, 1927, to the late Conner C. and Bertha Horsley Goodwin.
Otha and Leo, his late brother, owned and operated Goodwin Pontiac and Chevrolet in Vanceburg. Otha was a past member of the Vanceburg Lions Club and was a member of the Old Orchard Christian Church in Ashland where he enjoyed volunteering his time to the church. Otha was a veteran of the US Navy in which he so proudly served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Hazel Hardin Goodwin of Ashland, whom he married in Greenup County on January 16, 1955; one daughter, Glenda K. (Steve) Himes of Garrison; one son, Brent A. Goodwin of Ashland; one brother, Lovell B. Goodwin of Ashland; two sisters, Esther (Gene) Crisp of Minford, Ohio, and Dorothy Kelly of North Kingsville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Otha was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Goodwin in 1957; three brothers, Leo, Homer, and George Goodwin; and two sisters, Gladys Cuerden and Goldie Fannin.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 29, 2016, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Pastor Joey Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Black Oak Cemetery at Black Oak.
Friends may call from Noon until time of services Tuesday at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438 of Vanceburg.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Old Orchard Christian Church, 3600 Blackburn Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101.
