Penny Craig

Penny Cooper Craig, 68, of Muses Mills, went to be with her Lord, the one she sang about for many years, on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at her home with her family by her side, after an extended illness. 

Born in Maysville on July 24, 1955, her father was the late Rev. Wendell Cooper and her mother was the late Golda Newsom Cooper.

Penny was a former employee of Bath County Manufacturing and had recently retired from Saint Claire Regional Medical Center.  She attended the Muses Mills Christian Church.  She enjoyed traveling with her sister, Peggy, in their singing ministry for nearly 35 years as well as watching the birds and her cats from her porch.  She loved visiting various Kentucky state parks and going to the McKameys in concert.

Penny is survived by her daughter, Amanda Mers and husband Charles; her special granddaughter, Nevaeh Mers; her sister, Peggy Eubanks and husband Jerry; her special niece, Andrea Bramel and husband Michael; her great-niece, Della Bramel; her great-nephew, Silas Bramel. She is also survived by her previous husband and Amanda’s father, James Hall and wife Laurie and their family; John’s children: Sue Vazquez, Johnny Craig, and Crystal Garcia; along with many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her mother Golda and her father Wendell, Penny was preceded in death by her brother, Phillip Cooper; her maternal grandparents, Andy and Alma Newsom; her paternal grandparents, George and Arizona Cooper.  She was also preceded by her husband, John Craig; and a fiancé, Harold Lloyd Davis.

The funeral service will begin at Noon Friday, May 31, 2024, at Muses Mills Christian Church with Bro. Terry Cooper and Bro. Doug Reeves officiating.

Penny will be laid to rest in Newman Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Charles Mers, Michael Bramel, Steve Newsom, Rick Newsom, Jeff Workman, and Mike Workman.  Honorary pallbearers include Denny Cooper and James Hall.

Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church, located at 3735 Muses Mill Road at Wallingford.

Boone-Nickell Funeral Home in Flemingsburg is caring for Penny and her family.
