Property tax rates set, down slightly from 2016

Local officials have set property tax rates for the current tax year and while many of the rates are unchanged from 2016, the total tax amount will decrease by about 1.56 percent, the first overall drop in recent memory.

The property tax rate set by the Lewis County Board of Education this year is 47 cents per $100 valuation, down from 48.6 cents a year ago. All other real estate tax rates remain unchanged from last year.
