Local officials have set property tax rates for the current tax year and while many of the rates are unchanged from 2015, the overall tax rate will increase by about 9.7 percent.
A Lewis County property owner with real estate valued at $62,000 will pay $644.18 in property taxes this year. That’s $57.04 more than the same property owner paid in 2015.
The rate increases are in health, library and school taxes and were approved by members of those taxing district boards. The rates for county, fire district, extension, and state property taxes are unchanged from last year.
