Ravanell Thomas Polley, 98, of Vanceburg, passed away Saturday June 1, 2024, at Vanceburg Rehabilitation and Care after an extended illness. Her family was at her side.
Ravanell was born in Lewis County on May 22, 1926, a daughter of the late Benjamin Jackson and Lorena Simpson Thomas. She had worked for US Shoe Corporation and was a farmer. Ravanell and husband Herb owned and operated Polley’s Carryout in Vanceburg for several years until her retirement. She attended Muses Chapel Church. Her passions were quilting and taking care of her flowers.
Left to cherish Ravanell’s memories are a daughter, Jenny (Paul) Applegate of Vanceburg; a son, Butch (Donna) Polley of Vanceburg; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Cilina (Trent) Underwood, Shane (Samantha) Stafford, Hank (Nicky) Stafford, Lorie (Keith) Ginn, Brittney Underwood, Hunter Stafford, Tanner Underwood, Josh Applegate, Corey (Shelly) Lewis, and Lucy (Ryan) Owens; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter, Paisley Ravanell Stafford. Many other relatives and friends who also survive who will mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville “Herb” Polley on August 6, 2006; a sister, Leeta McCall; and three brothers, Charles Allan Thomas, Jack Thomas, and John Thomas.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Mike Grayson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery at Ribolt.
Pallbearers will be Shane Stafford, Hank Stafford, Hunter Stafford, Ryan Owens, Josh Applegate, and Tanner Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Stafford and Cayden Stevenson.
Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Muses Chapel Church.
