Lillie Lou “Rena” Dunigan, 98, of Tollesboro, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Rena was born in Lewis County on September 12, 1927, a daughter of the late Samuel and Erma Polley Dunigan.
She was a faithful member of Hickory Grove Christian Holiness Church and served as a Sunday School Superintendent for the Kentucky Christian Holiness Conference. She loved attending church, singing in church, sitting on her front porch, mowing grass, cooking for her family, and being with her church family. She was labeled as one of Mason County’s Finest Pioneers on July 18, 2015.
Survivors include a nephew, Larry (Tammy) Henderson, Mandy, Ashley and Ada of Tollesboro; two nieces, Sherry (Scott) Porter, Tiffany, Wade and Justin of Olive Hill, Tammy (Lloyd) White and Haley of Maysville; two brothers, Lovell Dunigan of Maysville and Duke Dunigan of Vanceburg; a sister-in-law, Mickie Dunigan of Vanceburg; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and two special friends, Sue Kennedy and Peggy Mason Applegate. Many other family members and friends will also sadly miss her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Henderson; three brothers, Tink Dunigan, Chick Dunigan, and Russell “Hop” Dunigan; four sisters-in-law, Anna Lee Dunigan, Dorothy Dunigan, Pauline Dunigan, and Beatrice Dunigan; and a brother-in-law, Hiram “Tooter” Henderson.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Tollesboro Funeral Home, 11918 KY 57 at Tollesboro, with Bro. David Hickerson and Bro. Mike Blanton officiating. Burial will follow in Muses Chapel Cemetery.
Friends may visit after 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Tollesboro Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Scott Porter, Lloyd White, Justin Kennedy, Drew Noble, Katsumi Wellman, Jeremy Noble, Gary Hunt, and Billy Dryden.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lovell Dunigan, Larry Henderson, John Quillin, Duke Dunigan, Landon Quillin, Blake Bevins, Charles Emmons, Jack Quillin, Logan Bevins, and Wade Kennedy.
