Rev. Julian Hammonds

Rev. Julian C. Hammonds, 93, of Carlisle, husband of the late Mary Evelyn Cooper Hammonds, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Cedar Ridge Health Campus in Cynthiana.

Born September 12, 1932, in Nicholas County, a son of the late Shelby M. “Pat” and Dora Bussell Hammonds, he was a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary and served as pastor for several churches in the Kentucky United Methodist Conference over his 40-year career. Julian loved watching UK basketball, fishing, and gardening, and was an avid follower of the weather.

He greatly enjoyed traveling with Evelyn and spending time with his family in his beloved hometown of Carlisle. Julian was a true servant of God, ministering to any and all who needed him. Whether through nursing home ministry or when called upon at his home church, Carlisle United Methodist Church, he was always ready with a prayer and a kind word.

Survivors include two children, David (Dana) Hammonds of Alexandria and Carol Ann (Darren) Davis of Ashland; one brother, Jerry Hammonds of Lexington; four grandchildren, Peyton Hammonds (Charlie Burdett), Ethan Hammonds (Maura Crouch), Rebekah (Cody) Ross, and Aaron Davis; and two great-grandchildren, Issac Adam and Alyvia Ruth.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Vice; a brother, Fred Hammonds; and one grandson, Caleb Davis.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2026, at Carlisle United Methodist Church with Pastors Rocky and Denise Wallace officiating. Burial followed in Carlisle Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Aaron Davis, Darren Davis, David Hammonds, Ethan Hammonds, Jerry Hammonds, and Cody Ross.
