Richard Lee Kennard, 83, of Tavares, Florida, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023, after a difficult battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones.
Richard was born at Vanceburg on March 8, 1940, a son of Opal Lee (Grant) and Charles Edward Kennard.
After graduating from Lewis County High School, Richard served three years in the US Army. He began working in the construction field in Ohio and in 1972 moved with his family to Tavares, Florida. He retired from Centex in 2004 after 31 years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce Kennard (Morgan); sons Duke (Andrea) Kennard and Matt (Debbie) Kennard; five grandchildren, Briana, Alex, Madison, Megan, and Brandon; and three great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Alex Jr., and Remington. Â
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Ronald Kennard.
Services will be at Steverson, Hamlin and Hilbish, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, Florida, on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
A viewing will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a service at 1:00 p.m.
