Roger Greene

Roger “Greenie” Alveno Greene, 74, of Sutton, West Virginia, formerly of St. Paul, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 15, 2022. He passed away at home with family by his side.

He was born September 3, 1948, at St. Paul, a son of the late Elijah Alveno and Jennie Mae Arthurs-Greene.

Roger graduated from Sutton High School in 1966 and joined the National Guard in 1968. He was a lifelong carpenter who not only worked the trade but loved it! Roger started his passion for working in the carpentry trade in the 1970s. He owned a local business for many years and not only built things in his community, but around the state as well.

During Roger’s lifetime he was owner of Greene Contracting, co-owner of Greene-Flint Construction, employed at Dayton Tire & Rubber, Flint Construction, and John Skidmore, Inc. Roger’s passion and skill for carpentry not only touched him, but is something he passed down to his children as well.

He was a hard working man, with tons of knowledge and passion for carpentry, but loved nothing more than his favorite job of being a husband, father, and grandpa. Nothing put a smile on Roger’s face more than his grandchildren.

Roger enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, mowing grass, going to car shows, and feeding animals. Roger had a friendly, lovable, contagious personality and touched so may lives during his blessed life.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Linda Sue Flint-Greene, whom he married December 16, 1967; two sons, Roger Greene II (Sandy) and Keith Greene (Marcey) of Sutton, West Virginia; a daughter, Tina Martin (Jeremy) of Sutton West Virginia; a brother, Ronald Greene; two sisters, Marcella Nelson and Paulette Greene; his grandchildren, Jamie (Holly), Cassie (Jerry), Nathan (Ally), Mackenzie (Dylan), Garrett, Rylee, and Chase; and great-grandchildren, Natalee, Brady, Jansen, Alyssa, Maddix, Cooper, Khole, Drew, Stryder, Watson, Conway, and Jennings. Many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends also survive who will mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Lois Lewis.

A celebration of life will be at Sutton Moose Lodge at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2022, with Rev Robey Godfrey officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the lodge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to his wife to help with medical expenses: Linda Greene, 172 N. Baxter St., Sutton, WV 26601.
