Carolyn Ruth “Ruthie Brown” Smith, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025, at Vanceburg Hills after a long illness.
Ruthie was born November 17, 1943, a daughter of the late Cecil and Elizabeth Knell Brown Sr.
She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Ruthie loved the county, cooking, loved her sisters and brothers, and she so loved her kids and grandchildren.
Survivors include her five children, Jessie Smith, Howard Smith, Thelma Hendrick, Martha Knight, and Mack Cecil Smith; two sisters, Betty Jo Henderson and Violet Marie Clark; one brother, Cecil Boyd Brown Jr.; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Many other family members and friends will sadly miss her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Edward Smith; five sisters, Norma Jean Powe, Anna Thomas, Ellen May Hill, Mary Lyn Brown, and Imogene Stevenson; three brothers, Allen Ray Brown, James Russell Brown, and Marty Wayne Brown; and three grandchildren, Carl Davis Hendricks, Adam Smith, Jackson Gilbert.
Ruthie will be greatly missed and will forever live through her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
