Samuel Elza Gilbert, 77, of Wallingford, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 28, 2019, at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington.

He was born May 8, 1941, in Lewis County, a son of the late Wilburn Red and Violet Pollitt Gilbert.

Samuel was a member of Petersville Church Of God and enjoyed looking at antique tractors, hit-and-miss engines, going to antique shows, racing, picking on folks and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Alena Toller Gilbert; two sons, Harry Gilbert of Vanceburg and Denny Gilbert (Kelley) of Wallingford; five sisters, Lula Cox of Maysville, Bonnie Highlander of Wallingford, Donnie Faye Wilson of Maysville, Patricia Mabry of Flemingsburg, and Janet Bell of New Mexico; one brother, Troy Gilbert of Wallingford; five grandchildren, Jerrod Gilbert, Joshua Gilbert, Dalton Grayson Gilbert, Tyler Gilbert, and Tessa Gilbert; and three great-grandchildren, Chris Meyer, Jaxon Gilbert, and Kylie Gilbert. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Gilbert and Ray Moore; and one sister, Joyce Myers.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Petersville Church Of God with Bro. Harry Meadows and Bro. Milt Stanfield officiating. His body will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Esham Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Pallbearers will be Mike Edington, Frankie Arthurs, Harry Stanfield, Gary Kegley, Markie Dillon, Roger Lykins, and Barry Dillon.
