Samuel Ginn

Samuel Lee Ginn, 91, of Vanceburg, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He was born in Lewis County on February 22, 1932, a son of the late Burnest Lee and Mary Eliza Switzer Ginn.

Sam proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Shepherd’s Chapel Church for many years. Sam had a big heart and loved to laugh, traits he passed on to all who met him. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether that meant fixing a tractor or growing food in his garden. He never met a problem he couldn’t solve and wasn’t afraid to take on projects, big or small, always confident he could figure them out with a little time to think. The world has lost not only a great man, but a lot of knowledge and drive, a great sense of humor, and a loving heart. He will be missed by many.

Survivors include four sons, Dean (Melissa) Ginn, Keith (Lorie) Ginn, Rodney (Belinda) Ginn, and Kevin Ginn of Vanceburg; three daughters. Linda Darlene (John) Morris of Dover, Barbara Ison of Morehead, and Vicky (Whitney) Thompson of Winchester; one sister, Virginia Hunt of Covington, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Many other family members and friends also survive who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Garneda Mae Thoroughman Ginn; two brothers, Tommy Ginn and Jeff Ginn; one sister, Helen Ruth “Peggy” Ruark; two grandchildren, Eric Dean Ginn and Alexis Thompson; and a son-in-law, Michael Ison.

Services will be at Noon Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Forest Hedges officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2023, and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Dickerson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Shane Ison, Nick Ginn, Ben Ginn, Mark Ginn, Blake Ginn, and Justin Ginn.

Condolences may be sent at www.globefamilyfc.com.
