Shirley Collins

Shirley Ann Cooper Collins, 85, of Louisville, formerly of Vanceburg, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at her home after an extended illness.

Shirley was born at Thor on December 4, 1938, a daughter of the late Ray and Margaret Stafford Cooper. She was a 1957 graduate of Lewis County High School.

Shirley was a member of Vanceburg Christian Church for 75 years. She loved playing tennis and bridge for many years and she especially enjoyed reading.

Left to cherish Shirley’s memories are two sons, William R. Collins (William R. Howes), and Dewey Joseph (Donna Bennett) Collins; sister, Alice (Glen) Gilbert; a sister-in-law, Vondy Collins Jordan Miller; and her grandchildren, Kate Collins, Sarah Collins, Nicholas Collins, Benjamin Collins, and Conner Ledington. Many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive who will mourn her passing.

She also leaves behind friends from the many places she lived, including Hopkinsville; Arlington and Vienna, Virginia; Okinawa Japan; Nashville, Tennessee; and Louisville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Dewey Collins Jr.; a daughter, Shelly Lane Collins; and two brothers William T. Cooper and Jackie Ray Cooper.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Pastor Tom Cox Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Waring Cemetery at Garrison.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home.
