Shirley Violet Grant Laney, 87, of Vanceburg, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, at her home.
She was born November 27, 1934, at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a daughter of the late Stuart and Violet Johnston Grant.
Shirley was a member of Vanceburg First Baptist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed traveling, working in her yard, mowing, feeding the squirrels and birds, and spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Denver Laney Jr. and Gary (Rhonda) Laney of Vanceburg; one daughter, Sharon (Kenny) Bradley of Vanceburg, her twin brother, Stuart (Marcia) Grant of Orcale, Arizona; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive who will sadly miss her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Denver Laney Sr.; one son, Steven D. Laney; one daughter, Connie Laney Clark; one brother; one sister; and one daughter-in-law, Vickie Laney.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg, with Dr. Howard Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at Dickerson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Laney, Waylan Laney, Kenny Bill Bradley, Ryan Bradley, Chris Highfield, and Brad Fugate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Vanceburg First Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
