Thomas Ray “Sonny” Jarrells, 73, of Vanceburg, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born July 28, 1950, in Lewis County, a son of the late Nelson Eugene and Katherine Lewis Jarrells.
Sonny was a member of Evans Chapel Church and loved going to church. He enjoyed watching ball games and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Betsy Wilburn Jarrells; one daughter, Tammy (Brian) Mathews of Winfield, West Virginia; four sisters, Kim Masters and Danita Zapf of Vanceburg, Debbie Sprayberry of Ashland, and Carolyn Jordan of Lucasville, Ohio; five brothers, Mike (Tina) Jarrells of Vanceburg, Dwight (Sandy) Jarrells of Ribolt, Tex (Glenda) Hall of Wurtland, Scott Allen Jarrells of Vanceburg, and Tony (Margie) Jarrells of Garrison; two grandchildren, Kayla Mathews, Austin Mathews; and one great-grandson, Ryder Mathews. Many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Christine Jarrells, and three brothers, Gary Dean Jarrells, Roy Eugene Jarrells, and Jay McClure.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Ronnie Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Skidmore Cemetery at Garrison.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024, and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Dickerson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Callen Gardner, Chris Lewis, Michael Jarrells, Ryan Bishop, Kevin Jarrells, and Zachary Applegate.
