Sophia Dugan

Sophia C. Bevens Dugan, 88, of Garrison, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Vanceburg Rehabilitation and Care following a brief illness.

Sophia was born at Tannery on February 18, 1935, a daughter of the late Amos Raymond and Gladys Cooper Bevens. She worked for Aim Packaging Corporation in Port Clinton, Ohio, and also worked for Oak Harbor Nursing Home in Port Clinton, Ohio. Sophia was a homemaker and member of the Pentecostal Church in Port Clinton, Ohio.

Left to cherish Sophia’s memories are three daughters, Bonnie Ellithorpe of Vanceburg, Brenda (Lester) Rister of Oak Harbor, Ohio, and Marylin Parker of Garrison; one son, Paul Ray Dugan of Port Clinton, Ohio; a sister, Rosemary Applegate of Vanceburg; a brother, Lawrence Wayne Bevens of Vanceburg; 25 grandchildren; 16-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends also survive who will mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John B. Dugan Sr. in 2010; two sons, John B. Dugan Jr. in 2021, and James Dugan; three sisters, Irene Fairchild, Omah Bevens, and Garnet Bevens; two brothers, Earl Raymond Bevens and Amos John Bevens; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Ellithorpe.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2023, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Sister Wilma Erwin officiating. Burial will follow in Cooper-Willis Cemetery at Garrison.
