After more than 30 years of operating his neighborhood grocery store in Vanceburg, Steve Applegate, of Steve’s Market, will be flipping his last burger and ringing up his final sale there on Saturday.
“It’s time to do something else,” Applegate says as he puts another pound of sliced bacon on the griddle. “I’ve got no complaints. I’ve enjoyed it since the first day.”
Applegate purchased the grocery business from Dane Blankenship in 1984. He had just earned a degree in accounting from Morehead State University.
