Over the weekend, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office completed an investigation regarding an online threat made by a Garrison Elementary School student. The sheriff’s office has determined where the post came from and will be pursuing and filing all appropriate charges. The parents of any student involved have been contacted by school personnel or the sheriff’s department.

Over the past several years, we have made significant improvements to the security of our buildings. Even with these improvements, our best school security feature will always be our students, our parents, and our community. We ask you to speak with your children about the seriousness of making threats against individuals or our schools. School safety is no joking matter and the school district as well as our local law enforcement will take all threats seriously.

It is critically important that if you allow your children access to social media platforms such as TikTok, lnstagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, etc. that you monitor their accounts closely and discuss with them the implications of the posts that they create.

Respectfully,
Jamie Weddington
Superintendent
Lewis County Schools
