The search for a superintendent for the Lewis County School District is officially underway with the position having been advertised.
Members of the Lewis County Board of Education agreed to handle the superintendent search in-house and save several thousands of dollars in the process.
The local board had contracted with the Kentucky School Boards Association a year ago to oversee the search process at a cost of $8,000.
It was that effort that led to Belinda Forman being named as superintendent to succeed Maurice Reeder Jr.
Reeder had held the post for 18 years. Forman resigned effective the end of June.
“I have too many other issues. Too many other things that I need to take care of,” she told board members as she submitted her resignation in May.
