Threats That Silence: Strategies for Journalists’ Safety and Protection Against Attacks

This session will offer ways to be prepared for threats and attacks upon journalists, publishers, and corporate publishing facilities. Because journalists and publishers are targets for attacks this session will offer some tips for handling these threats.

Sheriff Johnny Bivens

 

 

 

Johnny W. Bivens has been in law enforcement for over 25 years. He has been the Lewis County Sheriff for the past 12 years. Sheriff Bivens was named Kentucky Sheriff of The Year in 2015. He was elected third Vice President of the Kentucky Sheriff Association by his peers. Sheriff Bivens is recognized across the Commonwealth for his leadership in law enforcement and his achievements in protecting the citizens of Lewis County.

Deputy John Byard

 

 

 

 

John M. Byard has been in law enforcement for over 10 years. Besides being Lewis County Deputy Sheriff, he is the first Chaplain for the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, and serves as the Administrative Assistant to the sheriff. Deputy Byard has conducted Active Shooter training for Lewis County schools, banks, and the Chamber of Commerce. He also conducts “Home Alone” safety for elementary students in the county.
