Thurman Edgar “Peanut” Burriss, 81, of Portsmouth, Ohio, formerly of Vanceburg, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 10, 2017, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth following a brief illness.

He was born March 21, 1936, in Lewis County, a son of the late John and Garnett Stephenson Burriss.

Peanut retired as a truck driver with Coca-Cola after 27 years. He was recognized by the company for being accident-free throughout his entire career.

He enjoyed going to flea markets, auctions and yard sales, gardening, mowing grass, drinking coffee with his friends, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Lewis Burriss; one son, Jeff Burriss of Portsmouth, Ohio; two brothers, Paul Burriss and Roger Burriss (Vickie) all of Vanceburg; two sisters, Rosalee Jordan (Lowell) of Vanceburg, and Virginia Liles of Louisville; and a very special friend, Gary Silcott. He leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Burriss, who passed away November 30, 2014; two brothers, Sam Burriss and Hayden Burriss; and one sister, Frances Hurd.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Roger Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
