Tony Sapp

Thomas Anthony “Tony” Sapp, 64, of Maysville, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022, at his home.

He was born in Mason County on July 21, 1958, a son of the late Elbert Luther and Bobbie Carolyn Bishop Sapp.

Tony (most of his friends called him “Sumo”) graduated from Mason County High School in 1976, and attended Maysville Community College and Murray State University before a lengthy career at Dayton Power and Light.

He was an avid sports fan. He served as bookkeeper for the Mason County Royals and Lady Royals basketball teams for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Calvary Temple men’s softball team for many years. His fondest memories were the years spent making memories with his friends traveling the country playing sports.

Tony is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vicki Denton Sapp; one son, Adam (Becky) Sapp of Maysville; three granddaughters, Tabitha, Talynn, and Trynlee Sapp; one brother, Randy (Robin) Sapp of West Chester, Ohio; and four aunts, Mary Lu Stephens of Flemingsburg, Sharon Shields of Tollesboro, Shirley (Leslie) Moore of Vanceburg, and Patricia Sapp of Tollesboro. Many nieces and nephews also survive who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harlan Luther and Thursie Carver Sapp; maternal grandparents, Thomas Woodrow and Verona Gilkison Bishop; a paternal aunt, Velma (Dean) Tully; and paternal uncles, Garlan Sapp and Owen Stephens Jr.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 11918 KY 57 at Tollesboro, with Bro. Kent Moore, Bro. Jamie Mitchell and Bro. Gordy Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022, and until the service hour on Thursday at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Pallbearers will be Tracy (Opie) King, Randy Gaunce, Brian (Rabbit) Littleton, Tim Douglas, Chris O’Hearn, Eddie Hopkins, Ryan Sapp, Reed Sapp, Jason Denton, and Matt Lytle.
