Vernon Mitchell Ash, 85, of Marion, Ohio, passed away early Sunday morning, March 3, 2024, at Ohio Health Marion Hospital.
Vernon was born September 7, 1938, in Lewis County, a son of the late Delbert and Goldie Inez Pendulum Ash. He was a deacon of Good Faith Baptist Church in Marion. Vernon was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from General Motors in Mansfield, Ohio, and enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, and going to auctions.
Survivors include his wife, Lula McCann Bentley Ash; two daughters, Melanie (Christopher) Schwall of Ridgecrest, California, and Michelle Ash of Mansfield, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Bonita (Jim) Applegate of Flemingsburg; two sons, Vernon (Anita) Ash Jr. of Crestline, Ohio, and Mark (Diana) Ash of Mansfield, Ohio; two stepsons, Ronald (Amy) Bentley of Larue, Ohio, and Douglas Bentley of Marion, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mark (Danielle) Ash, Amber (Larry) Rust, Alicia (Daniel) Blunk, and Matthew (Kaetlyn) Schwall; six step-grandchildren, Samantha Bentley, Ashley Sutton, Sara Bentley, Savanna Bentley, Jordon (Destiny) Bentley, and Zachery Daily; seven great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannetta Ash; a sister, Martha savage; and four brothers, Hansel, Rival, David and Hubert Ash.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario, Ohio.
Visitation will also be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg.
The service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Gaydos Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak. Military graveside honors will be accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438.
