Wallace Eugene Bess Jr., 72, of Vanceburg, passed away Friday evening, March 25, 2016, at Hospice of Hope at Kenton Pointe in Maysville.
He was born August 31, 1943, in Boyd County, the son of the late Wallace Eugene Sr. and Myrl Davis Bess.
Wallace was a member of Raceland First Assembly of God and retired as a technician from GTE and Verizon Communications. He also was a member of the Black Oak Fire Department and Lewis County Emergency Management.
He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, playing music and was an avid amateur radio operator.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Bess; and one sister, Jonda Fortner.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Clarke Bess; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene Allen and Debe Bess of Dixon, Missouri and John Wallace and Farrah Bess of Hunington, Indiana; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Jeff Evans of Flatwoods; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Bess and Duffie Osborne both of Lucasville, Ohio; and one Aunt, Mary Francis Byrd of South Point, Ohio. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Graveside services will be held with full military honors at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery East in Greenup County with Bro. Charles Shields officiating. Further arrangements are pending and will be announced later.
Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg will be taking care of all arrangements.
