Charles Lee “Westy” Adams III, 65, of Charters, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Westy was born in Lexington on July 31, 1957, a son of Betty Westerfield Adams and the late Charles L. Adams Jr. He grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio, where he played football and was on the track team for Notre Dame High School. Westy was the State Class A Champion for shot put in 1976.
Westy attended Morehead State University, majored in Agriculture, and was a part of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He graduated from college in 1982 with his Master’s.
Westy married Nancy Walk Adams on June 21, 1986. The two were married for 36 years and blessed with two beautiful daughters, Lauren Suzanne Tackett and Emily Rebecca Francia.
Westy was a retired Agriculture teacher, an advisor of FFA, and assisted with coaching high school football for 30 years. He also served on the Ag Finance Corp Board for the State of Kentucky, appointed by former governor Steve Beshear. Westy was known for his significant role in advocating for kids to have the opportunity to succeed.
Westy is survived by his wife, Nancy Walk Adams; his children, Lauren (Nathan) Tackett and Emily Francia; his mother, Betty W. Adams; his sister, Anne W. Adams; his grandchildren, Peyton Tackett, Blakelyn Tackett, Masyn Tackett, and Atticus Francia; an aunt, Juanita Lunsford; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Adams Jr., and his grandparents, Jewel and Paul Westerfield, and Charles and Hazel Adams.
Westy will especially be remembered for his love of farming, UK sports, and his grandchildren. He will be missed by many family members, friends, and his “precious cargo.”
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 11918 Kentucky 57, with Sen. Robin Webb, Bro. Ronnie Hall, and Bro. Robbi Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery at Ribolt.
Friends may visit after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
