Wilma Horsley, 99, of Vanceburg, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the home of her daughter-in-law and caretaker. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Wilma was born at Petersville on August 20, 1923, a daughter of the late Frank and Mabel Hamilton Dunaway. She attended Vanceburg Christian Baptist Church. Wilma was a longtime Vanceburg businesswoman. She her husband Guy owned and operated Guy’s Market from 1953 to 1970. She also operated other businesses in the area including Wilma’s Ready to Wear Shop, Duds & Suds Laundromat, and in 1975 the Horsley family opened Fairlane Food Market.
Left to cherish Wilma’s memories are a son, Jim (Tonya) Horsley of Wheelersburg, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Horsley of Vanceburg; two sisters, Irene Shepherd of Mentor, Ohio, and Betty Tarr of Bend, Oregon; a granddaughter, Paula (Danny) Hampton of Vanceburg; a grandson, Ben (Michelle) Horsley of Vanceburg; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor and Todd Hampton, Timmy, Tucker (Leslie), and Lily Horsley, Riley and Ethan Horsley; special grandchildren, Ledger, Lincoln, and River Roe; and a special caregiver, Elaina Cooper. Several nieces and nephews also survive who will mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Horsley, on June 18, 2005; a son, Guy Thomas Horsley, on July 28, 2006; her brothers, Howard Dunaway, Chester Dunaway, Raymond Dunaway, James Robert Dunaway, and Gilbert Dunaway (in infancy); and a sister, Verna Polley.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Terry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ben Horsley, Timmy Horsley, Tucker Horsley, Danny Hampton, Taylor Hampton, and Todd Hampton. Ethan Horsley will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
