Lewis County’s surviving World War II veterans were honored for their service during the annual Patriot Day Ceremony on the courthouse lawn in Vanceburg.

John Byard, who is the chaplain for the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department and minister at Sand Hill Christian Church, opened the ceremony by talking about 9/11 and remembering those who lost their lives on that day as well as those who worked the scene in the months following.
