Lucy Arlene Smith, 70, of Sandy Hook, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at UK St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born in Letcher County on February 28, 1956, a daughter of the late Lilburn and Hannah Taylor.
Lucy was a homemaker for most of her life. She was also employed at Giovanni’s Pizza for many years. She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. She loved spending time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren. Lucy also enjoyed sewing, working jigsaw puzzles, playing Rook, and bingo.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Ronnie Smith; two daughters, Felicia (Troy) Smith of Vanceburg and Miranda Smith of Sandy Hook; a son, David (Susan) Smith of Olive Hill; a sister, Vina “Cookie” Spearman of Van Wert, Ohio; four grandchildren, Brianna DeWitt, Ashton Smith, Hunter (Madison) Lowe, and Levi Smith; and one great-grandson, Colter Lowe. Many other family members and friends will sadly mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Marshall Taylor, Ruth Taylor, Columbus James Taylor, Miles Taylor, Robert Taylor, Viola Short, Paul Taylor, Wanda Thomas, and Shirley Rose.
Services were Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Whitt and Sons Funeral Home in Sandy Hook with Rev. Tim Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Whispering Pines Cemetery on Middle Fork.
Pallbearers were Hunter Lowe, James Dale Smith, Dewayne Moore, Walton Thomas, Garrett Taylor, and Troy Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Levi Smith and Colter Lowe.
